The Parklands of Floyds Fork

What a beautiful park! There are great open spaces, access to trails and natural areas, and a dog park. There are parking lots spaced throughout, making it convenient to get in and get to relaxing quickly. There is a HUGE open lawn with a trail around it. It's perfect for just about anything from laying out, playing catch, flying kites, having a picnic, and so much more. There's sooooooo much room. If you like having wife open spaces and access to some other park amenities, the Parklands is perfect.

“The Parklands” is a 4,000-acre park system made up of four individual parks and a connector park along the Floyds Fork Tributary. With 100 miles of hike-bike trails, there was no shortage of nature and hiking options. “The Parklands” in the Louisville area indirectly owes its existence to who is considered the father of landscape architecture in the United States. Early in the 1800s Frederick Law Olmsted, the first U.S. landscape architect, developed a series of parks around the city of Louisville, KY. It is these 200-year-old legacy parks that are the basis and inspiration for the development of “The Parklands.” Berkley Creek Park, one of the four parks in “The Parklands,” is not just a place for hiking and biking. When visiting this green space, you might also see people lounging on blankets while watching others pass frisbees or kick a soccer ball. With a large playground, a pavilion and walking paths, there literally is something for everyone at this area of the park known as “Egg Lawn”. Even though this is a newly developed green space, it is a rather popular place for the public on the weekends. As the trees and fields mature, I can only imagine what this open space place will look like in the future. “The Parkands” impact on the Louisville area is just getting started. Today, the young trees and flowers dot the open fields. Who knows how different the fields pictured above will look in 20-30 years. If you happen to be in the area and enjoy nature, make sure you stop by.

While Beckley Creek and Pope Lick Parks are beautiful, Turkey Run Park and especially Broad Run arem more of what many of us go to a park for. Peace and tranquility. They all have great hiking and biking trails but those two are the best. BC and BR both have spraygrounds and playgrounds so that is sure to please the little visitors. They all open at sunrise and close at sundown. The Parklands website is a fountain of info on what they have to offer. As well as the few rules they have.

Love the park...but had an issue with Ranger buddy tonight. The first time he passed us at an inappropriate speed in his truck was on the trail between the soccer field lot and the snack stand. Yes i had a 9year old on a bike that i had to get into the grass because a ford ranger doesn't belong on those trails especially not at his rate of speed. The second time he passed was on the small road between the parking lots with him going about double the speed limit. So when I saw him chatting it up in the parking lot I walked up and as politely as I had available told him "work here or not you need to chill out with your speed" and instead of any regrets or apologies he ran his mouth. Apparently he was the first responder to someone who left a bookbag at a bathroom. He fancies himself police/fire (his words) gave me his name and told me to call who ever I would like. I hope you have great insurance for when this guy takes out a kid. I take mine to the parklands to avoid the idiots in trucks...

This park has a great bicycle and mountain bike trail system. Also good for just about anything else recreational Outdoors. Floyds Fork is a beautiful Creek that can be paddled in the spring and after heavy rains in the summer. This park is an absolute gem in Louisville Kentucky. I truly would like to thank city of Louisville for putting these 5 parks together.

The park is beautiful and the playground is nice for the children. I would NOT recommend the rental for the Redbud pavilion. Our experience for a child’s birthday did not go well. We paid $200 for the rental. We had per contract start time 8AM. Per contract private use till 2PM. We needed to tell ppl to move out of the pavilion upon arrival. We had a rude old lady come to us at 11:45AM stating we needed to be out of HER way by 1PM. We should her our contract and she continued to harass us and barged into our party at 1:15 while my grandson was opening his presents. Needless to say, in todays times with folks that do not have morals, values or consideration of how special a child’s birthday is - I would NOT recommend this as a good rental, unless you hire security. Too much of a problem and HIGH RISK for too much CONFRONTATION for this to be a good location.
